Action News February 2024

Greetings dear friends,

Interfaith Action’s mission, in addition to serving people who are hungry or homeless, also calls us to “pursue interfaith dialogue.” This month, Action News highlights two upcoming opportunities, designed to encourage thoughtful dialogue within the community.

Interfaith Action recommends Learning Together, an Interfaith Approach to the War in Gaza, a two-part lecture series presented by Evanston Interfaith Clergy. This series on the history of Israel/Palestine features Jewish scholar Dr. David N. Myers and Arab scholar Dr. Hussein Ibish.

Part I:"From the Origins of Zionism to the Fateful Year of 1948" Saturday, February 17, from 2:00 - 4:30 pm at Second Baptist Church, 1717 Benson Ave.

Part II: "From Independence/Nakba to October 7 and its Aftermath” Sunday, February 18, from 2:00 - 4:30 pm Faith Temple COGIC, 1932 Dewey Ave.

Click for more information and registration. The $20 ticket covers both programs. This series is open to the public.

Another approach to interfaith dialogue has been in process for the last two years. In an effort to advance its interfaith dialogue mission during the pandemic, IAE sought out and Zoomed together people dedicated to social justice issues within their faith communities. We wanted to see if there were commonalities among their interests that might be better served by working together.  IAE discovered multiple faith communities already active or interested in similar issues, especially regarding racial equity, refugees/asylum seekers, climate justice, in addition to IAE’s focus area of people unhoused or hungry. With the help of volunteer coordinator, Jackie Eddy, these groups continue to meet and support each other in their efforts. If individuals in your faith community are interested in participating, you may contact Jackie at jmeddy2@gmail.com.

Warm regards,

Interfaith Action Team
